Emily Dickinson

In this short Life

In this short Life that only lasts an hour
How much — how little — is within our power

VV. AA.

Una breve muestra de poemas breves

Paz

Aquí yace mi esposa. Paz eterna
con su muerte a ambos venga.

J. V. Cunningham

Viento oeste

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

De Marcial

Una gota de veneno, un poco de hiel malvada;

Richard O’Connell

Perro y amo

Yo soy el perro de Su Alteza en estos pagos, sabed;

Ezra Pound

La carretilla roja

Cuánto se basa
sobre

la roja carre-
tilla

lacada por la
lluvia

entre gallinas
blancas.

William Carlos Williams

En venta

Vendo zapatitos de bebé (sin usar).

Ernest Hemingway

La vida sexual de ambos

Un fracaso
sobre otro.

A. R. Ammons

1 de enero del 87

Peligrosas aceras.
Pero este año me enfrento al hielo
con el bastón de mi padre.

Seamus Heaney

Minimismo

Luzz

Aram Saroyan

Nota. Ver artículos en The Times y Wikipedia.

Be to us both with her decease.

But we, contrariwise,
Sleep, after our short light,
One everlasting night.

Epigram

What is an Epigram? A dwarfish whole,
Its body brevity, and wit its soul.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

On a Volunteer Singer

Swans sing before they die—’twere no bad thing
Should certain persons die before they sing.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

A drop of venom, a little bit of gall.
Lacking these, my friend, your epigrams lack all.

Emily Dickinson

Cierta oblicuidad de la luz

Cierta Oblicuidad de la luz
—invernales Atardeceres—
oprime como un peso
de Sonoridades de Catedral,

un Dolor celestial nos trae...
no hallamos cicatriz alguna,
pero la diferencia interna,
donde los Significados, existe,

—nadie puede enseñarlo, Nadie—
es la Desesperación firme,
una imperiosa aflicción
que el Aire nos envía:

cuando llega, el Paisaje escucha,
—sombras— contiene la respiración;
cuando se va, es como la Distancia
en los ojos de la Muerte.

There's a Certain Slant of Light

There's a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons –
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes –

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us –
We can find no scar,
But internal difference –
Where the Meanings, are –

None may teach it – Any –
'Tis the seal Despair –
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air –

When it comes, the Landscape listens –
Shadows – hold their breath –
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death –

Emily Dickinson

Yo no soy nadie

Yo no soy nadie, ¿quién eres tú?
¿También eres nadie?
Pues ya somos dos. ¡No lo digas!
¡Esos lo contarían, ya sabes!

¡Y qué aburrido ser alguien!
¡Tan notorio como una rana,
diciendo todo el día tu nombre
para admiración de la charca!

☛ Emily Dickinson. I’m Nobody, Who are you? (wikipedia.org)

Trad. E. Gutiérrez Miranda 2015

                    ∼

I’m Nobody, Who are you?

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us — don't tell!
They'd banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

Emily Dickinson

De Bronce… y Brillos…

De Bronce… y Brillos…
el Norte… de Noche…
tan suficiente… forma…
tan complacido en sí mismo…
tan distante… a las señales…
una Indiferencia tan soberana
al Universo, o a mí…
infecta mi espíritu sencillo
con Máculas de Majestad…
hasta llevarme a más altas actitudes
y a pavonearme en mi palo…
despreciando Hombres y Oxígeno,
por la Arrogancia suya…

Mis Esplendores, son Diversos…
mas su Completo Espectáculo
deleitará a los Siglos
cuando yo sea, tras mucho tiempo,
una Isla en la profanada Hierba…
que solo el Escarabajo… conozca.

                    ∼

Of Bronze— and Blaze

Of Bronze—and Blaze—
The North—Tonight—
So adequate—it forms—
So preconcerted with itself—
So distant—to alarms—
And Unconcern so sovereign
To Universe, or me—
Infects my simple spirit
With Taints of Majesty—
Till I take vaster attitudes—
And strut upon my stem—
Disdaining Men, and Oxygen,
For Arrogance of them—

My Splendors, are Menagerie—
But their Completeless Show
Will entertain the Centuries
When I, am long ago,
An Island in dishonored Grass—
Whom none but Beetles—know.
