te encontrabas hace tres, o treinta años;
se sequen y mueran como caracolas en la bajamar;
y tampoco importa qué arcanas infusiones bebas
y no te preocupes si tu cuerpo no muestra ningún interés
No bebas. No ingieras nada demasiado
placentero.
sería = y. Para adivinar

Regression
[dactylic tetrameter]
Early senility brings on a flourish of
jovial pedantry. Factoids that once had no
kinship at all now join hands in a corpulent
hora, conferring the light of Sweet Reason on
paranoid musings and brainstorms. For Instances:
[amphibrachic trimeter]
Reversal in growth is “regression.”
At times in your life, you might turn round
and suddenly run back to where you
were years ago, three years or thirty;
but hopefully not for too long, just
to make things seem simpler, smoother.
[iambic pentameter]
But when you age, the ebb tide of regression
sucks strong enough to boggle tired paddlers,
or lots of us. It doesn’t help that cells
you need for memory (what we call “smarts”)
dry up and die like winkles at low tide;
and no, it doesn’t matter which arcane
botanicals you drink or mental feats
of discipline perform – unless your health
is better than the norm, your brain fogs up.
(Of course it helps to be a millionaire.)
[trochaic heptameter]
Old-age regress means depending on what always worked good.
Eat what’s simple, like you did in college, time is precious.
Say what’s on your mind, out loud, and laugh when kids don’t like it.
If you had a sexual quirk, pursue it on the Web –
anonymous, of course – and never mind your body shows no
interest whatsoever: it’s your head in charge now, honey,
and the mortal enemy is Boredom. Read whatever
crap you like, your mind’s improved as much as it can get now.
Fact: the last of your relationships, including family,
are Transactions. No one wants to improvise at this point.
Take your pills. Don’t drink. Don’t swallow anything too pleasant.
Rid yourself of all uninteresting chores or habits.
Sleep. (sleep) When and where you want. (sleep) Kick disturbers. Snore. (sleep)
Youngsters call these behaviors childlike. True, in terms of power.
[Iambic tetrameter]
There’s only two more kinds of it –
Regression. One they call “regression
analysis,” where they predict
some thing, like as in: a plus b(x)
should = to y. To guess
(‘predict’) they had to study all
’bout Probability, and this
turned up Regression To The Mean.
No, not a character defect.
It means that when you measure things
and get a weird result – such as,
the farmer just next door is eight
foot seven inches tall – the next
one that you measure almost all
the time is five foot nine and change,
just near the planetary average.
And so, regression blah blah blah.
The folks who work full time on math
don’t think a lot about the best
new names for math they just made up.
[free verse]
There’s only one meaning of regression left,
the most general possible; in which
the full impossibly detailed complexity of the universe,
which can never be apprehended anyway,
is filtered down and attenuated
to simpler and simpler “mirror” levels below,
through what some call recursive entropy;
reproducing possibly ad infinitum, but losing
all the important parts in the process.
The nearest example is everything humans do,
needing to survive by “copying” the world,
but turning it into impoverished glyphs, onomatopoeia,
shibboleths, ossified icons, quantities without context,
narratives cancered by falsehood, and art
which copies art which copied art which copied art
which forms a thickly plastered unrecognizable
ten-thousand-year-old-mask over reality.
I know, the Argentinean said art is an addition, not reflection –
but the same man argued convincingly that anything creatable
has already been duplicated infinite times, and will
continue to be laboriously repeated by the inscrutable Void.
