Nota
Esta versión, más que traducción, es una invocación al señor W. C. W. que tanto ha dado que especular, y rumiar, sobre su carretilla roja bajo (o tras) la lluvia entre (o junto a) las blancas gallinas (o pollos, o polluelos y pollitos incluso) desde hace más de cien años. El número de palabras y de sílabas por línea es el mismo que en el original (haciendo, como Williams, dos palabras de carretilla: carre y tilla), es decir tres palabras (en cinco sílabas) y una palabra (de dos sílabas) hasta un total de dieciséis palabras; esto es lo que me ha llevado en realidad a elegir, en lugar de gallinas, pollas, en la primera acepción, hoy poco conocida, del diccionario de la Real Academia: «Gallina nueva, medianamente crecida, que no pone huevos o que hace poco tiempo que ha empezado a ponerlos». Queda extraño, pero tiene su guasa.
